Glass, Ceramics and Concrete Manufacturing

From Powder to Part - Manufacturer of Powder Injection Moulding and 3D printed components on customer demand

About us

Formatec started off as an R&D company, investigating the, at that time, entirely new manufacturing method Ceramic Injection Molding (CIM). In close cooperation with BASF and ECN (now TNO) feasibility tests for all types of companies were performed to see if CIM was suited as manufacturing method for their products. One of these companies was Philips for whom we developed and tested the coffee machine nozzle, and with success. In their search for a production company Philips came back to us as there weren’t any – yet. With Philips’ request, Formatec changed directions shifting into a production company what we still are up to today. Nevertheless the R&D DNA has always been and remains to be a big part of the business helping to realize challenging projects. An example was exploring a new way of shaping ceramics through Additive Manufacturing. We have been a pioneer in investigating the possibilities of 3D printing ceramics to improve efficiency, enable adding complexity and simplifying the production process. The project turned out to be another success, and has developed into a company now delivering machines for Additive Manufacturing of ceramic and metal; Admatec Europe. We use their technology to offer Additive Manufacturing as one of our production possibilities. Today, with over 25 years of knowledge and experience, we are a full service provider of research, development, production, post-processing; we cover every step in-house to realize your goal. As latest addition to the success story of Formatec we expanded our business with including Metal Injection Moulding (MIM) to our portfolio by adding a team of MIM experts. With them joining us we are confident we can provide the same high standard of quality products like we can in CIM and Additive Manufacturing. We are proud to be a Dutch company, fully based and operated out of the Netherlands, though covering business and delivering ceramic and metal products on a global level through reliable service.

We had a very busy and productive booth at last week's Formnext event in Frankfurt, Germany, as depicted in this video. Attendees were able to meet with our experts and experience our latest additive manufacturing and micro-additive manufacturing systems and see a variety of samples that were generated on these platforms. We look forward to evolving these conversations and demonstrating how our Admatec, Formatec and Fabrica technologies can benefit existing and prospective customers. #3dprinting #additivemanufacturing #formnext

Few countries appreciate a good beer more than Germany. So, with the Munich-hosted Formnext underway, many attendees and exhibitors will likely indulge in a few lagers during their stay. But none will want to drink from this actual mini-mug – you’d need an eyedropper to fill it! – that was created in precise detail on our Fabrica Tera 250 micro-AM system. If you’ll be attending the show, please stop by and find out more about the capabilities of our Fabrica systems. Happy #MfgDay! Meet David Shrayber, Application Engineering Manager at our US office! Shrayber’s interest in additive manufacturing (AM) sparked in college where he was first introduced to 3D printing technologies. “Additive manufacturing is so exciting because it allows for the ability to produce things that can’t be generated in conventional manufacturing methods and explore new ways of manufacturing,” says Shrayber. During his tenure at Nano Dimension, he helped close a deal with an industrial company that is using our technology to prototype our parts, kickstarting them into production mode. Shrayber sees the future of AM going into production, in automotive, aerospace, and medical. “I believe it is a huge need in today’s world… for people to be able to access a custom part that is unique to them.” Shrayber shares this advice to those pursuing a career in AM: “Never give up. The industry is challenging because it is small and niche, but once you’re in, you’re in. Try your hardest to communicate as much as possible and be persistent… that’s what will help you get through the door.” #additivemanufacturing #3dprinting #innovation
